  My purpose as an art teacher is to establish an environment of respect and safety where students can express themselves creatively while taking the risks necessary to grow as an artist.

 Artist Statements are dreadful, opaque documents. Artists take to writing because we simply have to, in order to secure a grant, land a job, open our latest show. We construct a carefully worded exegesis that gets read by nobody. So I will offer some stories. If they convey what is important about art, wonderful. If not, that’s ok. At least you get to read something interesting. 

This interview was conducted in 2020 during the lead up to my most recent show at Spark Gallery in Denver. I talk about the creative process, touch on a few biographical details, and explain why I am committed to making art in the first place.
